Aseptic Preparation- An Introductory Training Course (Course ref 2008/41 Aseptic)

Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th May 2008

Venue – Seminar Room, Pharmacy Department

St. James’s Hospital, Dublin 8

There has been a huge development in aseptic preparation in recent years in Ireland.  A large number of Irish hospitals are either involved in compounding or wish to incorporate aseptic preparation into their pharmaceutical service.  There is a need for practice-based training to help such services operate in Ireland.

This course is designed to give a basic introduction to compounding and aseptic procedures. The course is specifically designed to give a practical hands-on approach to the training, allowing delegates to try techniques for themselves as well as introducing them to a variety of issues affecting aseptic services, including:

  • Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Cytotoxics
  • Isolator technology and clean rooms
  • Aseptic techniques
  • Principles and practice of Quality Control
  • Documentation
  • Health and Safety issues

The course will meet the needs of professionals (both pharmacists and pharmaceutical technicians) who wish to learn about the principles and practice of aseptic preparation.  It will involve a combination of lectures and workshops/site visits in order to ensure that participants are familiar with the basic good manufacturing practices operating within an Aseptic Unit, and understand its role within the hospital’s oncology/CIVAS services.
