The Name

The Association is an Association of Hospital Pharmacy Technicians and shall be known as the National Association of Hospital Pharmacy Technicians.

Mission Statement

The National Association of Hospital Pharmacy Technicians of Ireland is the national voluntary association seeking to both ensure and continually improve upon professional, educational and practice standards for Hospital Pharmacy Technicians. NAHPT promotes the professionalism of Pharmacy Technicians by means of communication and strategic alliances with other pharmacy stakeholders.

In 2007 NAHPT aims to:

  • Increase awareness of Hospital Pharmacy Technicians' value and role throughout the health services sector.
  • Enhance Pharmacy Technicians' professionalism through communication, continuing education, and networking.
  • Increase credibility through involvement with other professional organisations in the field.
  • Build and maintain alliances with other related members of the health services sector.

Mission Statement

To help enhance and promote the lives and careers of hospital pharmacy technicians by:

  • Providing leadership in continuing education and pharmacy technician training programs to better increase the working knowledge of all hospital pharmacy technicians, thereby improving pharmaceutical care, in conjunction with other healthcare professionals.
  • NAHPT is the national association representing hospital pharmacy technicians (members) in issues pertaining to pharmacy technicians, the pharmacy profession, and the healthcare industry. NAHPT provides an active voice, always representative of our members, to help advance the profession and the standard of pharmaceutical care given to patients.

NAHPT provides support to hospital pharmacy technicians in the advancement of the field of pharmacy by providing knowledge and services needed by hospital pharmaceutical technicians, which is constantly evolving and changing.

Overall Objectives

To Unite and organise members and to provide a means for the expression of their collective opinions on all matters affecting their interests.

To regulate the relations between members and their fellow members and between members and their employers.

To safeguard and improve the conditions of employment of members and to promote their interest.

To promote the interest of, and strive for the raising of the educational and professional standards of Pharmacy Technicians.

To secure a satisfactory wage scale for all members of the Association.

For the purpose of promoting the objectives and making them effective, the Association may enter discussions or arrangements with other organisations through the Committee, provided always that such discussions or arrangements shall, if proposed at the Annual General Meeting be there approved.

To establish and administer a fund or funds for the purpose of providing assistance and necessary information for its members.

To safeguard its members interests in connection with legislative measures and to secure the effective administration of existing laws which may affect the general and material welfare of its members.

Membership

This shall be open to all qualified Hospital Pharmacy Technicians.

It shall be subject to the payment of an annual subscription.

Any member wilfully refusing to subscribe shall be subject to expulsion.

All subscriptions shall be paid by the members as directed by the Committee and approved by the A.G.M.

Constitution

The N.A.H.P.T. committee set up a review process. Following a strategic review, the Constitution was updated and will be put to the membership of the N.A.H.P.T., via Referendum on May 21st, 2005.

The N.A.H.P.T. committee will ratify the result and the members of the N.A.H.P.T. will adopt the agreed Constitution in full.
